White House Internship Program
The White House Internship Program offers an excellent opportunity to serve our president and explore public service. We are seeking exceptional candidates to apply for this highly competitive program. In addition to carrying out typical office duties, interns attend weekly lectures and tours and complete an intern service project.

Interns may serve a term in the fall, spring, or summer. Every candidate must be a United States citizen, enrolled in a college or university, and at least 18 years of age.

An application and additional information about the program can be found at www.whitehouse.gov/government/wh-intern.html.

Strong applications exhibit:

  • Sound academic credentials
  • A history of community involvement and leadership
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • A demonstrated interest in public service

  • October 13, 2006, for spring 2007 – (January 9 to May 11, 2007)

From the Vice President and Chief Information Officer

SEFA/United Way Campaign Kickoff
Please join the SEFA Campaign Committee for the 2006 SEFA/United Way Campaign Kickoff at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, September 14, in E. H. Butler Library 210, when President Howard will launch the official State Employees Federated Appeal/United Way Campaign with help from special guests from the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County. Mark your calendars and enjoy some refreshments while learning about the needs in our community and ways your SEFA contribution can help. Solicitors will gather before the kickoff, at 11:15 a.m., in E. H. Butler Library 208 to receive their packets and words of advice on how to conduct a successful campaign.

Computer Training, SkillSoft E-Learning, Web Templates, and Web Site Support
Computing and Technology Services and the Technology and Application Support Collaboration (TASC) offer monthly computer training classes. Unless otherwise stated, classes are held in CyberQuad, E. H. Butler Library 318. Please bring a USB flash drive (to save your work), a pen, and paper. Student Workshops
All computer training classes are now open to students. In addition, TASC offers student-only workshops on certain Tuesdays during Bengal Pause, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Announcements for these classes are made through student e-mail and/or flyers distributed on campus.

To register, students should contact Paul Reynolds at reynolap@buffalostate.edu or ext. 3361 with the following information: name, e-mail address, telephone number, and name(s) and date(s) of desired workshops.

SkillSoft E-Learning
Faculty, staff, and students also may participate in SkillSoft, an online learning program of more than 800 courses and a variety of certificate programs that allow participants to demonstrate mastery of a set of skills. More information about the SkillSoft E-Learning Program is available from the Human Resource Management Web site, www.buffalostate.edu/offices/hr. Employees also may register for courses on the site.

This month's SkillSoft courses may be taken in CyberQuad's Faculty/Staff Workroom, E. H. Butler Library 310, by appointment only; call Paul Reynolds at ext. 3361 for an appointment. Please check in at E. H. Butler Library 315 (CyberQuad) before starting. SkillSoft courses also are accessible from your home.

Web Templates and Web Site Support
Web template training, service, and support is available for academic departments and administrative offices. TASC and the College Relations Office offer training especially for campus Web developers. Courses include Using the Web Template System, Introduction to HTML, Customizing Your Web Site for Search Engines, and Understanding Site Traffic Logs. Employees may review course descriptions and register at http://bscintra.buffalostate.edu/registration.

Grant Allocation Committee Request for Proposals
The Auxiliary Services Grant Allocation Committee (GAC) is requesting proposals from individuals, departments, and student clubs and organizations for funding of programs, speakers, and events to take place during the 2006–2007 academic year. Application guidelines and materials are available at www.buffalostate.edu/offices/stuaffr/ReqforProposals20062007.doc. The deadline for submitting applications under this funding cycle is Wednesday, September 20. Additional opportunities to apply for GAC funds will be provided in November 2006. Questions about the GAC may be addressed to Daniel Velez, assistant to the vice president for student affairs, Cleveland Hall 519, ext. 4704.

Law School Fair
The Career Development Center is proud to announce the Greater Western New York Law School Fair from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 25, at the Buffalo Niagara Marriott.

The Greater Western New York Law School Fair gives students interested in furthering their education in law an opportunity to learn about law school programs in the area and across the country. Representatives from 40 local and regional law schools will be present to provide students with information and applications, as well as to answer questions.
