Response to Senate Recommendation
At its November 17, 2006, meeting, the College Senate voted to recommend approval of the designation of upper-level courses as follows:
In order for any new or revised course to receive an upper-level designation (300 or 400), the department should provide evidence of at least two of the following criteria:
- Requirement of a prerequisite course, courses, or instructor permission.
- Course content, assessment, and learning outcomes demonstrating evidence of greater focus or depth in the content than lower-level introductory or survey courses.
- Course content, assessment, and learning outcomes targeting a higher order of critical thinking than lower-level introductory or survey courses.
I accept the recommendation of the College Senate and hereby approve the revisions to the requirements for upper-level course designation effective spring 2007.
