Appointments
Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management
Mark Petrie accepted this position as outcome to a national search and will start at Buffalo State in late July. Petrie joins the college following a career with the University at Buffalo, where he currently serves as the assistant vice provost and director of systems and programming services.
Interim Dean, School of Arts and Humanities
Dennis McCarthy is serving as interim dean. McCarthy has been at Buffalo State since 1977 and has been associate dean in Arts and Humanities for the past 13 years. A national search to fill the position is continuing.
Dean, School of the Professions
A national search started in February 2006 and led to three on-campus interviews. Following appropriate consultation, an appointment will not be made, and the search has been closed. Gary Jones, who has served as interim dean since June 2005, will continue to provide the administrative leadership for the school.
Interim Director, Center for Excellence in Urban and Rural Education (CEURE)
John Siskar served as interim director since January 2005. Siskar returned to his faculty position in Art Education effective July 1, 2006. I extend the appreciation of the Buffalo State community to John for his outstanding leadership to CEURE in the past 18 months.
Effective July 1, 2006, Warren Gleckel, Exceptional Education, accepted the CEURE interim director position. Gleckel has held a number of leadership positions during his 31 years at Buffalo State.
A national search for a CEURE director is expected to commence in fall 2006.

Call for Nominations: 2006 Young Alumnus Achievement Awards
The Buffalo State College Alumni Association seeks nominations for the 2006 Young Alumnus Achievement Award, which will be presented at a special awards reception on October 27 during Homecoming Weekend.
Now in its fifth year, the award recognizes alumni of the last 20 years who have (1) achieved significant professional advancement; (2) provided outstanding service to the community; and (3) demonstrated loyalty and commitment to Buffalo State College.
Last year's recipients—Brett Coppins, '96, '02; Joseph Golombek Jr., '88, '94; Aileen Hoffman, '88; Nikolas Lemos, '94; and Darius Pridgen, '88—represented the professions of art, politics, social work, forensic chemistry, and ministry/community activism. They demonstrated the wide range of careers pursued by successful Buffalo State graduates and served as superb examples of generosity and service to the college and the community.
The Alumni Association welcomes nominations from alumni, faculty, staff, emeriti, students, and friends of the college (self-nominations are also acceptable). The deadline for 2006 nominations is Monday, August 28; however, nominations are accepted year-round, and all nominations are active for three years. No posthumous awards are given. Award winners must be able to attend the awards ceremony.
For nomination forms or more information, contact Jennifer Small at ext. 6001 or smalljl@buffalostate.edu, or submit a nomination application online.
