Call for Applications: McNair Scholars Program
The McNair Scholars Program at Buffalo State seeks undergraduate student applications.
Students in any major can participate. Approximately eight McNair scholars are selected annually.
The deadline for completed application packets is Friday,
February 27. Please inform any students you feel qualify for this program. Students can be
referred to the McNair Scholars Program Office, Science Building 253, ext. 3411.
For program qualifications, visit www.buffalostate.edu/offices/mcnair/3bsc_mcnair.html or
send e-mail to Jennifer Johnson at johnsoja@buffalostate.edu.
McNair scholars select their research mentors. Faculty who participate in the application of
students to the McNair Scholars Program may be more likely to be selected as research mentors.
McNair program research mentors receive:
- $1,200 stipend to supervise a student's research over two summers or two academic years.
- Financial support to fund the student's material costs for research.
- Financial support, as available, to attend a conference where the student's research is presented.
McNair scholars are expected to present their research and results twice per academic year.
- Opportunity to teach a one-week (two-hour-a-day) summer course for McNair scholars
($1,000 a week, maximum of four weeks).
Summer Session Course Schedules
Please be advised that the college will not print a formal 2004 Summer Session course schedule. Instead, an Adviser Course Bulletin will be printed and distributed to all faculty and staff on or about March 15 for use in advising. The Adviser Course Bulletin will include course listings, the academic calendar, and helpful Web addresses and phone numbers for advisers to make referrals as needed. For the most accurate information, please continue to use the course listing on the Registrar's Office Web site, as well as the search functionality that SABRE affords.
This decision was made to provide advisers with more accurate information. In previous years, because of printing deadlines, the printed schedule was essentially out of date before it was available on campus. In addition, a large number of printed schedules were recycled because of increased use of the online course listing and SABRE.
The summer 2004 course schedule is available online at www.buffalostate.edu/offices/registrar/courses.htm.

Faces of Buffalo State College
The Faces of Buffalo State College project invites faculty, staff, and students to create
a self-portrait that will be included in a giant mosaic of Rockwell Hall. Two
"create your face" events will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday,
February 11 and Wednesday, March 10 in the Campbell Student Union Assembly
Hall. Mirrors, markers, and crayons will be supplied.
Self-portrait response forms also will be available in early February and collected
during the spring 2004 semester via on-campus drop boxes. Forms also are
available on the Web at www.facesofbuffalo.com.
Portraits will be combined to form a 6-by-7-foot mosaic that resembles Rockwell
Hall. Close up, viewers will see the individually drawn faces; from a distance, they
will blend together and appear as Rockwell Hall.
No special skill or training is required. Portraits can be realistic, abstract,
cartoonish, expressive, or childlike. All collected portraits will be used. No portrait
will be judged. All are equally important to the success of the project.
Please support this innovative and exciting way to bring our diverse campus
together, to celebrate each individual, and to embody the creative spirit of Buffalo
State College.
This event is sponsored by the Vice President for Student Affairs Office and the
Auxiliary Services Grant Allocation Committee.
