Long-Term Care Insurance
Employees and retirees of New York State may enroll in one of two long-term care insurance plans. Each employee can design a plan to fit his or her needs, choosing daily and lifetime benefit amounts. Plans are tax-qualified and offer a variety of payment options. Spouses and domestic partners, parents and parents-in-law, and dependent children also are eligible to apply for coverage at the same group rates.

Through May 31, active, at-work employees are guaranteed enrollment without medical underwriting. New employees are guaranteed issue within 60 days from their date of hire. After May 31, enrollment is subject to medical underwriting. Medical underwriting also will be necessary for family members of active employees, as well as retirees and their families.

Seminars on long-term care insurance will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19 and Wednesday, February 20 in the State Office Building, 65 Court Street, Hearing Room 1. Seminar registration is required at least 72 hours in advance.

For more information, to register for a seminar, or to order an enrollment kit, call (866) 474-5824 or visit www.nyperl.net.

Empire Plan Deductibles and Co-insurance for 2002
Annual Deductibles
Empire Plan annual deductibles for M/C, UUP, PEF, NYSCOPBA, and Council 82 employees increased January 1 to $271 per enrollee, $271 per enrolled spouse or domestic partner, and $271 for all dependent children combined. This change reflects the 4.5 percent increase in the medical care component of the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) for July 1, 2000, through June 30, 2001.

The annual deductible for CSEA employees increased to $175.

Co-insurance (Out-of-Pocket Expenses)
Empire Plan maximum co-insurance increased January 1 to the following limits to reflect the change in the Consumer Price Index:

UUP $1,745
M/C and PEF $1,303
NYSCOPBA and Council 82 $1,005

The maximum co-insurance for CSEA employees remains $776. Co-insurance will be reduced to $500 for calendar year 2002 for CSEA employees who earn $24,657 or less in base salary and who are heads of household and sole wage earners in the family. Please contact Human Resource Management to apply to the Department of Civil Service for this reduction.

Note: No deductibles or co-insurance applies if employees use the Empire Plan Participating Provider Network.
