Moot Hall
The renovation of Moot Hall is complete. The following enrollment management services offices are now located in Moot Hall:

Admissions
Enrollment Management
Financial Aid
Registrar
Student Accounts
Veterans Certification

The phone numbers for all offices remain the same, with the exception of enrollment management, whose new phone number is ext. 3640.

Please stop by and visit this impressive new student-centered facility. A rededication ceremony for Moot Hall has been scheduled for Friday, October 12.

Statement for Course Syllabi regarding Students with Disabilities
Faculty are urged to include the following statement in their course syllabi: "Any student who requires accommodations to complete the requirements and expectations of this course because of a disability is invited to make his or her needs known to the instructor and to Marianne Savino, coordinator of services for students with disabilities, South Wing 120, ext. 4500."

A Message from the Campus Safety Forum
Buffalo State College faculty and staff want all students to feel safe on campus. Be alert and walk in pairs, especially after dark. Consider using campus safety services, including the Bengal Buggies, Escort Van, Motorist Assistance Program, and walking escorts. Blue light emergency phones located throughout the campus provide direct access to the University Police. For all emergencies on campus, call University Police at ext. 6333.

From the Vice President for Finance and Management

Enrollment Enhancement Awards
The State of New York/UUP Employment Committee has announced that Enrollment Enhancement Awards are available to provide assistance to SUNY campus academic departments experiencing declining student enrollments. A campus committee, group, or individual may develop a proposal for a project that would "significantly enhance the student enrollment of an academic department containing members of the UUP bargaining unit." The maximum award per campus is $10,000.

Guidelines, application, and evaluation forms may be printed from the New York State/UUP Joint Labor-Management Committees Web site at: www.albany.net/~nysuup.

Position Announcement: SABRE Staff Assistant
The SABRE Project seeks a staff assistant for a 12-month professional staff position. The staff assistant will serve as the administrative assistant to the executive director of the project. This is a two-year position.

From the Vice President for Student Affairs

Director of Orientation and First-Year Programs Appointed
Eileen Naughton Merberg has been appointed director of orientation and first-year programs, effective July 1.

Merberg joins Buffalo State from Sonoma State University in northern California, one of the 23 California State University campuses, where she was the director of campus life. She brings extensive experience in program planning, faculty collaboration, and curriculum development for leadership and freshman seminar courses.

Prior to her position at Sonoma State, Merberg was assistant dean/director of the student union at Loyola University Chicago. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Buffalo State and served as building coordinator in the Campbell Student Union from 1984 to 1986.

Merberg is delighted to return to her alma mater and looks forward to enhancing Buffalo State's orientation and first-year experience programs.

From the Senior Adviser to the President for Equity and Campus Diversity

Assistant Director Appointed
Michelle Douglas-Brown will join the staff of the Equity and Campus Diversity Office as assistant director on July 30. Douglas-Brown has a bachelor's degree in history and African American studies from the University of Minnesota, a master's degree in history from Florida State University, and has completed all coursework toward a doctoral degree in history with a minor in demography from Florida State University. She has 13 years of teaching and administrative experience at Morehouse College, the State University of West Georgia, Florida State University, and the University of Minnesota. Her primary responsibilities will be to provide support and assistance to faculty and staff for the recruitment and retention of a diverse population of faculty, students, and staff. She comes to the Buffalo area with her husband, who has taken a position at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Please join me in welcoming Douglas-Brown to the campus.


Special Program for Secretaries and Clerical Staff
Project Success: Ensuring That Students with Disabilities Receive a Quality Higher Education and the Campus Safety Forum will host an information session for campus clerical employees from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, August 16 in the Campbell Student Union Assembly Hall. The session will provide information on the role of clerical staff in providing assistance to students with disabilities. A report on recent activities related to campus safety also will be provided. Additional information will be provided at a later date.
