Adobe Reader Test

To test whether Adobe Reader, which allows you to open and read PDF files, is installed on your computer, click the following link to launch a test PDF file.

Adobe Reader Test (This may take a minute to load.)

If Adobe Reader is installed on your computer, a PDF document should open, indicating that Adobe Reader is installed. Once you have performed the test, you may close the window containing the document.

If this document cannot be opened, then download the free Adobe Reader and install it on your computer. You only need to install Adobe Reader if you are teaching or taking a course that uses it. When you have installed Adobe Reader, return to this page and try the test again.

What is a PDF File?

By using Adobe Acrobat software, an individual can generate a Portable Document Format (PDF) file from a file created in any of various applications. Others with Adobe Reader can then open and view the PDF file, even if they do not have the application in which the original document was created or work on the same computer platform (e.g., Windows or Macintosh) that was used to create the file. Most Web browsers have an Adobe "helper file" or plug-in that will open a PDF file. Some computers use a separate Adobe Reader program to open a PDF file.
